Biography

One of the most prominent forces of contemporary, popular Greek music, Nikos Papazoglou represents a special case in the Greek music scene.
Best known by his signature red bandana, Nikos Papazoglou has an exceptional deep voice that is known for its passion and idiosyncratic tone. He mixes old and traditional sounds, poetic as well as powerful. It’s not enough to say about him that half of the best songs heard in Greece over the past twenty years were his. All the theatres he chooses to give concerts are packed with people and that he created a powerful movement in Greek music with his style.
Born in Thessaloniki, Nikos Papazoglou began performing in a number of local groups in the late 1960s. Several songs that he wrote at that time were destined to be performed by Paschalis, a phenomenal young idol of the era, of the group The Olympians. In fact, Papazoglou substituted for Paschalis with The Olympians during the obligatory military service of the latter.
For a short time in 1972 he moved to Aachen in Western Germany with the group “Zilotes” (Zealots) in an attempt to break into the international music scene.
